Big Day Out - Martinborough to Castlepoint to Tinui, Sunday May 25th

Our Big Day Out (BDO) will be held on Sunday 25 May and is a goodie - Martinborough to Castlepoint and Tainui.  Following the country back-roads north towards Masterton before turning towards the coast, following signs for Castlepoint.  From Castlepoint, we will turn back to Tinui to end the ride at the newly refurbshed Tinui pub. The total ride will be about 130km, taking about 6 hours including stops.

Here’s how it works:

1. Book your seat in the van, or arrange your own transport.  Adrian McKenzie has kindly offered to drive his van, towing the club trailer with bikes over the hill and back. There are eight seats available in the van for KCC club members. To secure a seat in the van, riders should deposit $10 into the club account (03-0732-0020082-000 using reference BDO and your surname). The seats will allocated on a first-come-first-served basis. The $10 will cover Adrian's fuel.  If you don’t fancy sharing a van with smelly cyclists, especially on the return journey, you're welcome to bring your own vehicle.  However, it's about 130km out to Castlepoint so you'll either need to ride back to Martinborough or arrange a driver or fellow rder to share the load.

2. Pack your bag (and bike).  The van, trailer and passengers will depart Waikanae about 7am, and return some 12 hours later.  We will start riding from Puruatanga Road, Martinborough about 9am.

3. Enjoy the ride!  Once we get to Castlepoint, riders will back-track towards Tinui for afternoon tea at the Tinui Pub.  Refreshments (to the value of $15 each) are included in your KCC membership, but the recently refurbished cafe and bar also caters for serious hydrators and refuellers - bring your wallet.

This will be our second BDO in 2025, with a few more to come before the year's over.

BDO's are open to riders of all abilities.  Feel free to organise your own transport - the more the merrier. If you have any questions, please contact Clive on clive@sigma2020.co.nz
