Jo Warren – from the KGB’s, progressed across a couple of years and this year entered the Hope Gibbons TTT for her first ever race of this ilk. Not only did she hang on and ride hard – she made an amazing last-minute sprint to the line dragging her team along with her to cross the line in front of Masterton.
Other nominees.
Deb Finn. Has grown in strength and confidence on the bike all year. Road racing isn't her thing (yet!!) so you may not see her racing much, but she has participated in Southwards and Camelot races, also supporting her daughter and Jeff with their riding. Has progressed to riding Tues and Thurs, the Kruzers fast group on Saturdays and the early group on Sundays.
Janice Hill – Placing in the Winter Series (3rd). Her commitment to overcoming injury by getting a coach and sticking rigidly to the programme in fine and marginal weather. Early starts in the dark up the Maunga’s.
Her general level of fitness has significantly increased (coupled with regular yoga sessions) and with her riding skill it has enabled her to mix it with the stronger riders in the Saturday morning fast group.
Andy Ross. Andy worked hard on his cycling this year. Has really worked on his health and fitness this year, with lots of gym work & now also takes spin classes at City Fitness. Won Summer Series C Grade & rode well at the Club Champs event.
Other nominees.
Shane Griggs – 1st in D Grade – back strongly from health issues
Darrell Flaws – 2nd in D Grade. Darrell coming back from a leg injury
Richard Graham is riding really strongly, consistently performing in many events, all year.
Liam Parkes – a KGB-er from age 11, now racing in KCC and other events and a regular at Levin track through the winter. He’s also back for another round with the new KGB group and is now a good steady wheel. He’s grown and matured in just the year or so we’ve been riding with him.
Pete Gibbs – another awesome person to have on our side during racing – Pete regularly travelled from Pukerua Bay to marshal and help with events, as well as bringing various people (kids, friends, wife) to join our events at Southwards and Nga Manu, plus getting them to help out where needed…Still coming to KGB rides and bringing others along with him.
Other nominees.
Di Borman - unwavering help with rego and races, helping with KGB rides whenever we ask.
Chris Parkes – Liam’s dad. Not only has he been on all of Liam’s rides with the KGB’s, he has supported all riders of the latest KGB group now that Liam doesn’t need his full attention, as well as taking Liam to all his rides/races and to Levin track – not just watching but participating.
Darrell Flaws – amazing support on set-up and takedown for the whole winter and summer series plus TT’s – and timekeeping. Always happy to help.
David Cunningham - Cape Reinga to Bluff ride raising funds for Make a Wish Foundation (around $30,000 raised).
Other nominees.
Serena, Rob, Penny, Adrian, Glynis - Rode Chateau to Waikanae in one day (300kms) raising nearly $7000 for Ronald McDonald House
Euan Mason - had a massive crash mountain biking - badly concussed - not only back on his bike but has secured a place on team Cycling Tom Development squad.
Pete Gibbs - KGB stalwart – riding, marshalling, and racing regularly with a triple bi-pass and ongoing heart issues
John Rowlinson - on the comeback trail after his own heart issues and triple bi-pass
Janice Hill & Bruce Edgar, who did the heavy lifting for the very successful David Howman Evening. The event was great for the Club's profile and made a nice profit to help the Club financially.
Other nominees.
KGB Initiative - Adrian and Glynis
