UPDATE 21 December
Work is now underway to clear the storm damage from the Otaihanga Domain and lower section of the Waikanae River. Due to the signficant damage these tracks sustained from the flooding, we're being advised to Use With Care, as the tracks may still be rough over the holiday break. More work will take place in early January to get the tracks back up to standard.
----------------
Many tracks are suffering the effects of the recent flooding rain, especially the Otaihanga Domain and the Waikanae River Track. The damage has been signfiicant in some places and it will take time to be put right. Crews are assessing the damage but clean-up can't begin until it dries out a bit.
The river tracks and domain have been badly damaged and we're being asked to stay away. Please avoid usung the trail altogether as this will help prevent further damage. Also, Council are advising that all floodwater should be treated as contaminated.
Please act responsibly and stay away from the river tracks if you can, so that they can recover and be put right for us to enjoy again.
Also - DoC have advised that the track through the Waikanae Estuary is now permanently closed to bikes (walking only). The track isn't wide enough to safely accommodate the increased number of bikes through there, going both ways. New signs are up to reflect this change.
