Hi all

Here's an idea! Just look at this place.
The Camphouse - Taranaki (lhttps://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/taranaki/places/egmont-national-park/things-to-do/lodges/the-camphouse)

We're planning the next Big Day Out as an overnighter. However, we do need to make decisions this early to ensure accommodation and the like are secured.

Here are the bare bones of things so far.

Dates: 14 - 15 December 2019

First day - Hawera to The Camphouse

Approximately 119km of rolling countryside following the roads north and then east around the mountain.
Lunch at the Pukeiti Gardens en route (large cafe and seating inside and out)

The day will end with a bit of a climb (of approx 18km) to the accommodation (we'll take that easy), but there's a cafe across the road from The Camphouse so what could be better?

The ride on Saturday will have a total of 1800m climbing.

Second day - The Camphouse to Stratford / Eltham  / Hawera

Start with an 18km downhill - oh yes! That'll make the previous afternoons climb well worth it.
Ride approx 40km (total - that includes the 18km down) to Stratford, or further - maybe back to Hawera (70km) if people are keen, before bundling into transport to go back home.

Accommodation

The Camphouse is a DoC hut sitting at 900m altitude, sleeping up to 34 in bunk rooms. It's large and rustic but with all the amenities we need: beds, full kitchen facilities, hot showers, and, did I mention the cafe over the road?

I'd like this trip to be our Christmas get-together and the plan would be to have a shared meal in the evening and maybe some other bits and bobs as well.

We can book the whole camp house or book as individuals, muddling in with other visitors also staying.

The cost for accommodation would be between $25 and $40 (depending on booking choice and numbers) with added costs for such things as van rental and shared food, but this, of course, would be kept to a minimum.

So - if you're free the weekend of 14/15 Dec, would like a long social ride in parts we may not have travelled, and can budget the $'s please let me know.

Once I know numbers we can start planning in earnest - and you'll receive way too many emails from me. I will be asking for money as a deposit to ensure your place before bookings are made.

Please reply to me at secretary@kapiticyclingclub.co.nz by Friday 25 Oct if you're keen.

Hoping to hear from you.
