The Club Road Nationals started in Wanganui today with Mark Donald and I taking on the Time Trial Mark and I did it as a day trip - drove up in the morning - and were greated by Bob, Derek and Diana - a fantastic support team that looked after us superbly all day long. Every thing we needed was catered to and sorted out.. Was first class support and I like to say a huge thanks to them. So how did we do? I was first away in the Masters 2 division... My first time at the Nationals and I have to say I was bloody nervous at the start. But nervous energy is good - haven't felt like that since my rugby playing days. I couldn't be happier with my result - did a 36.08 for 25km. Average of 41.5km/hr. And finished in 6th place. Going into the event I'd never managed to break 40km/hr for any TT - so I was absolutely stoked to do it at the nationals - and to go way past it... My coach was telling me I'd do between 41 and 42km/hr - and If I'm honest - I didn't believe him... Guess that's why he's the coach... Bob contemplating if he could ride the Zinn... Mark was in the tougher Masters 1 division that included none other than the People's Champion - Gordon McCauley. Mark gave it everything but said it just didn't happen for him. Finished in 38.05 - for his 25km. Just under 40km/hr for his ride. Mark is already planning his assault for next year - so look out... Mark warming up In the start box and focusing... For the record - Gordon McCauley finished in 30.52 - an average of 48.6km/hr!!! Holy Cow... Full results click here Anyway - we're away at the Nationals. Derek Ward, Charles Salmon and Diana Borman are up in their road races tomorrow. All the best to them... I'll update with information as I get it... Cheers Adrian.
