Here are some of the routes we use for the Sunday group rides. The route for the coming week will be put up on Facebook, which you can view on the main 'Group Rides' page.

These routes all start from Farmers, at Coastlands, Paraparaumu. We depart from here at 8am each Sunday morning.

Tour de Kapiti 68km, 275m climbing (LINK

  • Head off towards Matai Rd and then onto Poplar Ave.
  • Turn off down Tennis Court Rd, and take in the sea along the Esplanade.
  • Along Rosetta and Manly, and then over the bridge at Otaihanga.
  • Through Waikanae beach and off to Peka Peka.
  • Te Hapua Road and Te Waka
  • Cross over onto Otaki Gorge Rd and around to School Rd
  • Back down  Te Horo Beach Road to Te Hapua
  • Back down the expressway to Te Moana Rd
  • Up Te Moana Rd to Relish for coffee.


Manakau 85km, 507m climbing (LINK

  • Up the old SH1 to Waikanae
  • Down Te Moana Road
  • Off to Peka Peka and then back up to the State Highway
  • The usual in and outs at Te Hapua and Te Waka
  • Into Otaki and onto Dunstan St to avoid going through the shops. 
  • Down past the racecourse and then turn left up Ringawhati Rd, off to Manakau.
  • Coming back, I've got you turning left at the roundabout and coming through the main road.
  • Over the bridge, then left into Otaki Gorge Rd, right at Hautere Cross Rd and through to School Rd
  • Back on the main SH at Te Horo Beach Rd, to avoid coming on at Te Hapua
  • Back through Peka Peka and the cafĂ© of your choice.
  • NB for a longer ride, add on Waikawa Beach or Manakau North (or both!)


The Fingers,  63km, 716m climbing (LINK

  • Up the old SH1 to Otaihanga
  • Turn left at the Roundabout and then onto the shared pathway, heading north
  • Come off at Waikanae and head to Te Moana Rd before heading towards the beach
  • Off to Peka Peka via Rutherford Drive
  • Turn Right at the T-Junction and head up past Harrisons
  • Turn right at the Roundabout and back into Waikanae on the old highway
  • Off to the fingers in the following order:
    • Rangiora Rd
    • Ngatiawa Rd / Terrace Rd
    • Mangaone South Rd
  • Coffee at Relish
  • NB for 'Finakas' do the fingers in reverse order and add on the Akatarawa Rd to the summit


Airlie Rd Loop, 66km, 791m climbing (LINK

  • Head off towards Matai Rd and then onto Poplar Ave.
  • Through QE Park to Tilley Rd
  • Down for a quick visit to the seaside
  • Up Paekakariki Hill Rd (entirely at your own pace, there are no jerseys on offer here!).
  • Regrouping at the top, we descend into and regroup at Battle Hill before heading on to Pauatahanui, and then
  • Round Grays Rd to Plimmerton.
  • Follow the coast before going up and over Airlie Rd, coming out near the cemetery.
  • From there, turn right down the shared path to Plimmerton, right at the roundabout and left back into Grays Rd and back over the hill into Paekakakariki
  • Try and grab a coffee at the Perching Parrot, before heading back through Queen Elizabeth Park and home!


Staglands 41km, 553m climbing (LINK

  • Head off towards Matai Rd and then onto Poplar Ave.
  • Turn off down Tennis Court Rd, and take in the sea along the Esplanade.
  • Along Rosetta and Manly St, and then over the bridge at Otaihanga.
  • Turn right onto Weggery Drive and head towards Te Moana Rd
  • Straight up Te Moana, left and right at the lights, crossing over to Elizabeth St
  • Up the Akas, and regroup at the top
  • Descend and pop into Staglands for some refreshment (note opening time of 10:00!!)
  • Head back the way you came and then home
  • NB for a longer ride, continue on past Staglands to Brown Owl and coffee at Relish


Otaki Gorge 68km, 634m climbing (LINK

  • A meander through Queen Elizabeth Park and then up Waterfall Rd and Maungakotukutuku hill.
  • North along Valley Rd, right into Ruahine St to and on to Waikanae up the old highway
  • Down Te Moana Rd, and on to Peka Peka.
  • On to Te Hapua and then up Te Horo Beach Rd to School Rd. 
  • Down Otaki Gorge Rd, over the swing bridge and up Kaitawa Rd.
  • Back to Ruth Pretty for coffee and cake.
  • Return via Te Horo Beach Rd, Morrison, and use the new track to avoid a right hadn turn onto SH1 to Te Kowhai Rd.


Te Horo 74km, 287m climbing (LINK

  • Up the old SH1 to Waikanae
  • Down Te Moana Road
  • Left at Waimea Rd and around Weggery to the beach
  • Off to Peka Peka via Rutherford Dr
  • Left at the roundabout and then Gary Rd and back
  • Onto the State Highway and then Te Hapua Rd all the way to the end
  • Back up Te Hapua and then down to Te Horo via Pukenamu Rd
  • Loop around the houses and then a BLAT down Sims Rd
  • left, left again and a BLAT down Harekeke Rd
  • Back to Waikanae via Pukenamu Rd and Peka Peka
  • Over the Bridge to Otaihanga and around to Paraparaumu Beach
  • NB for a longer ride continue up Te Horo Beach Rd and add on the School Rd/Otaki Gorge Rd loop


Local Hills 55km, 962m climbing (LINK)

  • Straight up the old SH1 to Waikanae.
  • Turn right into Elizabeth St, 2nd left, right at the end, the left into Huia St - follow to the end
  • Retrace back to first left, then left again and up to the watertower
  • A few more lefts and then up Kakariki and down the zig zag path at the end, the right, back onto old SH1
  • Turn left into Kebbell Drive and turn left at the top, then follow it all the way up to the top
  • Back down to old highway, head south then take the exit to Nikau Valley and up Nikau Palm Rd
  • Left into Anlaby Rd and up to the end
  • Back down to the old highway and left towards Valley Rd and up the Maungakotukutuku Hill
  • Down Kapiti Rd for coffee at the beach
  • NB for a longer ride, add on Paekakariki Hill!


Around The Block (RTB) 92km, 1233m climbing  (LINK)

  • This is a classic training ride, best in the summer months! 
  • Paekakariki Hill Rd
  • Moonshine Hill Road
  • The Akatarawas
  • A nice lie down
  • NB for The BIG block, add on Blue Mountains.  For the BIGGER block, add on Ngauranga.  For the BIGGEST block, go down Ngauranga, over the Rimutakas, over Paihiatua Track.   


Otaki Beach 67km, 190m climbing (LINK)

  • Head down Kapiti Rd and Arawhata, turning right to Ratanui Rd.
  • Go over the bridge at Otaihanga and then turn right onto Weggery, before heading out on the road to Peka Peka and then to Te Horo via Te Hapua Rd.
  • Back up Te Horo Beach Rd to the highway.
  • After the Te Waka/Addington crescent, head over the bridge and left into Riverbank Rd to head to Otaki Beach for a quick refreshment stop at the Surf Lifesaving club.
  • Head back to Otaki centre and then right at the roundabout with SH1.
  • Back over the bridge and left into Otaki Gorge Road, right into Hautere Cross Rd, onto School Road
  • Zoom down the expressway
  • Off at Waikanae and coffee at the beach

Brown Owl 76km, 1300m climbing (LINK)

  • Straight up the old SH1 to Waikanae.
  • Turn right into Elizabeth St
  • Go all the way along the akas
  • Come back
