Combined 60/40 and Sub 4.50 groups at the Paekakariki Hill summit.

There are 2 regular Sunday groups affiliated with the club.  To enable a clear identity for the groups we have adopted popular cycling terms. Each group has a “Group Leader” to provide assistance and advice.

KCC membership is encouraged, as is participation in the KCC event programme. There is a recreational membership option for those who want to join the club but do not want to partake in racing (contact This email address is being protected from spambots. Details are as follows, with info on how to contact the leader of each group to find out more, and ride details will be posted on our website and Facebook page each week, but just pitching up to the rides at the start time is fine too. We'd love to see you there!

The Yellow Jersey Group

• This is essentially the fast pack largely encompassing A and B grade riders (but not exclusive) wishing to ride challenging routes over 120 + kms. Many will be focusing on specific events such as K2, Sub 4.50 times at Taupo and Gran Fondo Worlds etc.

• The group had grown out of the 4.50 group of previous years

• We rotate the leadership of this group ride to ride, but contact Andrew for more info at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

• Distances and difficulty will vary depending on the time of year

• The group average speed of 30-32kph on the flats and they are all pretty handy hill climbers.

The Rouleurs group

• A French cycling term that neatly identifies the role of the group

• To provide an intermediate road cycling group to compliment the Yellow Jersey and the Gruppetto Group. The group generally focuses on building up to the major fun rides (K2, Taupo, Graperide etc). As a guide, the riders in this group generally do Taupo in between 5 and 6 hours.

• Ride distances will be 90-120km although longer options will exist. The routes will also accommodate riders preparing for key events but not quite at the same intensity as the Yellow Jersey Group.

• The group based on an average speed of 27-30kph, obviously weather conditions & terrain dependant

• The group has grown out of the 60/40’s group of previous years.

• This group is strong on culture and has been known to do the odd ride with 2 coffee stops. Don't let that fool you into thinking this is a purely social group however as it's full of great athletes.

• We rotate the leadership of this group also, but contact Andrew for more info at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Meeting place for YJG & Rouleurs: Farmers Car Park @ 7.55am for ride brief and an 8am departure

To further foster the camaraderie spirit, the post ride coffee and bragging rights location will be determined pre ride departure. A café central to the two groups finishes will determine where. We are fortunate to have a number of very good local cafes.

It’s important to ride with your ability group to prevent groups unduly waiting. Consider other rider’s safety, point out hazards, no overlapping wheels etc.

There is also a new group called the 8.05’s

• A group aimed at those newish to cycling who want to step things up a bit. They tend to ride around 30 km at a speed of around 25kph, but with shorter route options also included.

• Routes are posted on the Ride Kapiti FB Group site and led by Andrew Morrison

• The group leaves at 8.05 from outside Farmers, but do check the FB page to check they are riding
