Events Calendar
We've had the Time Trial to warmup - now there's some bunch racing to get your teeth into.
This will be a little different this year in that these races will be graded races rather than handicap races. This means you are racing only against those that you start with - which will make for different racing and also will mean we can alter the distances for different abilities. This is an attempt to appeal to a broader range of riders and to give a bit of variety.
There groups will be structured as follows.
- A Grade - 4 laps (Made up of scratch and break from regular handicap racing)
- B Grade - 4 laps (break2/3)
- C Grade - 3 laps (break 4/5)
- D Grade - 3 laps (new riders and limit)
We will up the distances for some grades as the daylight allows in the coming weeks.
Start time: 6:30pm - we've moved to this later time to allow more people to get to the races - but this week will see us tight to get racing in before it gets dark. Preference for this later start was something that came through very clearly in the survey we conducted earlier in the year. It means more people can get out from work in Wellington to race - and was one of the reasons for healthy racing numbers last year.
Registration: Opens at 5:30. Please get there in plenty of time to register into your group.
Cost: Members and licenced members from other clubs $2, Non members $10. For members there is also opportunity to purchase a season pass for all Tuesday night races for $35 (this covers a lot of races - it's a good saving and more convenient)
Timing: Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances - Shane - who runs our timing - is out of action for a few weeks. We'll have him back for our next timed races at Park Ave in the new year. So this means for this group of 5 races we'll be manually timing the races and will be using a chute to get the order of riders coming in. What happens with a chute is that once you cross the finish line - you stay in the order you finished in and SLOW DOWN and go through a coned narrow chute in single file (in the order you finished) that will be set up several hundred meters past the finish. There will be people there to record your race numbers as you go through - so you must go through the chute at walking speed so the recorders can get your number down. If you don't go through the chute - you won't be recorded.
Here's a map of the course. The races start on Rutherford Drive - just as it is heading out of Waikanae...
