Park Ave Racing is 6 weeks of every Tuesday night between the 10th of February to the 17th of March (inclusive)

For those that have never done it before - it's a handicap race 10 times around a 3.5km course starting an finishing on Park Ave in Waikanae.

Handicap racing - the same as the racing at Peka Peka.  So that means slower groups leaving first with faster groups chasing them down from later start times.  The key to this is groups working together to stay away from those chasing - and to catch those in front.  Teamwork pays here.

There will be 2 weeks of racing to get used to the circuit and then we will start the Avanti Plus Summer Points Series.   This will be made up of 4 races at Park Ave and finishing with a sealed handcap race up the Akatarawas.   Points will be awarded to the first 10 riders home on handicap and also lesser points for the first 3 fastest riders.   I will publish the points system before the series starts.

We will be using the timing system for this series of 6 weeks of racing. So bring your tags all those that have them.

If you don't have a tag - they can be purchased on the night for $15 (they are yours to keep and work at any of our races or interclub timed races in the region).  There will be limited loan tags available for those guests who are new to club racing and just want to give racing a try.

Racing costs - $2 for members - $10 for non members.  Some people have questioned our thinking here regarding the cost for non members - let me explain...   We used to run a system where new comers could race for 3 races and then they would be required to purchase a race licence.   But this system wasn't kept to by some and we struggled to police it (and quite frankly we didn't want to have to police it).   So if you don't want to join - that's fine - but we incur a lot of costs to put together a race - we have safety equipment that runs into the 10's of thousands of dollars (and constantly needs updating and resupplying) - we have a 25 thousand dollar timing system - and an expensive trailer (and we have to insure all this equipment) - we have people who we've paid to go on traffic management courses and get qualified - we've got members who volunteer each week to set up the course, marshal, help on registration, work the timing system and manage the races.   So by not being a member you aren't contributing to that community effort so it's only right that you should pay extra.  it's still incredibly cheap when compared to any fun ride you might enter.  The club is going great guns and we'd love you to be part of it - so it's also extra incentive to join.

Our membership is on the rise again which is great news - but please - those that haven't got to it yet - renew or purchase a licence by clicking HERE.

It would greatly assist if people could get there with plenty of time as we will need people to register their tags - so bring them to registration - pay your entry - then run your tag over the reader to confirm you are registered in the correct group and you are good to go.

PLEASE NOTE THAT RACING FOR ADULTS STARTS AT THE LATER TIME OF 6:30.

Registration will open at 5:30 at the Club Trailer which will be on Park Ave.

Bob Pratt will be managing the race - so thanks to Bob.

KIDS RACING

A fantastic feature of the Southwards Museum Racing was seeing all the kids racing and having a fantastic time.   We really want to continue to support the kids races and will have races on the grass area directly opposite the start finish (outside the Pony Club Rooms) .   The grass is a great way to learn the skills of bike racing in a safe way.   In fact a lot of cycling clubs used to be affiliated with athletics clubs and grass racing was common.   Paraparaumu Domain was often used for bike racing around the 400m track.

Kids racing will start at 5:30 and will be 15 laps of a 180m course on very hard packed grass.   Road bike will be fine on this surface.  Registration for the Kids races from 5.  $2 for the kids to race.  (The kids aren't racing on the road - so race licences aren't required)

See you all raring to go on the start line.

Adrian.
