Kapiti Cycling Club Spring Series

Event Three – Nga Manu Tuesday13th October 2020

The third event in the KCC Spring Event Series on Nga Manu circuit was again fortunate with dry weather making for excellent cycling event conditions.

Once again the popular Social Circuit event designed for riders wishing to experience group riding under a non-competitive format but with the option to race over the final lap was first up, The twenty minutes plus one lap event was pace controlled by long time club stalwart, Greg Cundy. The mixed ability group included two youngsters Liam Parkes and Euan Mason, Euan being a first-time attendee.

The social aspect of the event enabled more experienced club riders to ride alongside the newer group riders to offer advice when and if appropriate. The bell lap signalled the start of the final lap and the freedom to race for the finish line if so wished. The mad dash to the line proved exciting with first time attendee Anouk taking line honours in her first club event, well done Anouk.

The next up event was the 25 minutes plus one lap Handicap Race for the more experienced riders. C Grade started first with six starters before the combined A and B grade six riders started four minutes later. C Grade soon split up as a two-person early break went away with Andy Ros and Millie Donald determined that the back markers would not catch them. Although A and B set a fast pace to steadily reduce the nearly one lap lead given to C Grade it proved a minute to long. Millie decided she was stronger than her breakaway companion and took off for a well-deserved . solo victory holding off the chasing riders. Andy rolled in for a very credible second place with Katie not quite closing the four-minute lead given to C Grade.

An excellent ride from 13-year-old Millie Donald fresh from competing in the Yunca Junior Tour in Southland.
