Howdy all It's been fantastic to see so many people out and about riding lately. Numbers for the weekend rides are on the rise. Sunday we had 29 people setting off at 9:00am! I haven't caught up with anyone from the 905 group to see what their numbers where - but I'm guessing around 15 people? (please correct me if I'm wrong). And especially pleasing to see lots of new faces out with us. I know from experience that it's a daunting experience to pitch up to a bunch ride for the first time. And that there is a general perception that roadies can be elitist and a bit clicky. I absolutely felt this before I started coming along - but found to my relief that once you get involved - it's not clicky and elitist at all (or have I become like that and not noticed?? ) And I'd add that it's especially not clicky or elitist in our club! But that perception is still out there - and so our challenge is to get people to see past that perception as quickly as possible. So keep bringing your friends and collegues along and lets keep on working to be welcoming as we can be. I know one of the things that I found really odd when I started out riding was that it can be very difficult to get a wave out out of a serious looking rider - and this only adds to the perception of aloofness. You're riding along and you see another rider approaching - you wave and oftentimes they just keep looking straight ahead and don't acknowledge you at all. I'm not sure what that's about? Can I challenge you all - to make sure you wave to fellow riders? It's a small thing to do but we might find that it ripples out and helps us (hows that for deep from a former tight forward??). Can't hurt? Anyway - well done everyone for being out there and riding at this stage of the year. I know from yakking with people - there are a lot of people with big goals this season - so lets keep it rolling. Adrian.
