Sorry about the Tuesday night timing. Lets just call it a warm up for the next three weeks. You know where you came …who was in front…it’s just not on record for this week. The incorrect antenna set up meant there was an inconsistent read of south moving tags crossing the timing mat. We will have it sorted for next week. What did you think of the circuit? To be honest I was a little relieved I punctured. A great circuit which required concentration and a solid effort all the way. Basically no where to hide and rest for a discrete breather. We have four of these races on the calendar so we need to know.. good, bad, improvements?? Please add your comments I think the southern turn around point could be moved 500 meters north to a wider road and also to shorten the distance closer to 40km. I sure most speedos measured around 42km ?? Just something to keep in mind for the turn around point They are very narrow I know, but easy enough to get around in single file. Ease off in plenty of time on the approach to get the bunch round the turn safely in single file. Check every rider is heading in the same direction before the gas goes on. Basically don’t attack around the turn. Being a handicapped race you need as many of you together to help catch the bunch in front. From a safety point of view we don’t want all riders approaching the cones at hi speed all wanting to be first to the turn around. Please look after one another. There’s a whole 40km of race track to test the opposition, I though the night was a success (all two laps) and look forward to next week. Cheers Dave

Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-05 10:55:44 Thanks Dave, haven't raced the circuit but maybe we need to think about the finish point? its very narrow and close to the intersection so at the end you have riders coming from all four corners of the globe, with finishers and people cooling down, it might pay for safety to have riders only turn left after the finish. Cheers AJ | Comment by Adrian Mckenzie on 2010-02-05 11:50:06 There's actually 4 weeks left. 5 Peka Peka races on the calendar in total. http://www.kapiticyclingclub.co.nz/images/stories/Docs/kcc2009-10calendar.pdf I was on the Harrisons turnaround. And there were a few scary moments - especially on the first lap. But people got better as the race progressed. Charles should be commended for exceptional bike handling skills - had his front wheel taken out from him at the top turnaround and he managed to get unclipped in a hurry and dismount and start running. Impressive stuff Charles! But that highlights Dave's point - we need to look after each other and we've all got a duty of care for each other. The people on the front must keep the safety of the people behind them paramount in mind. Other than that - I heard lots of positive comments and sounds like the hill changed the dynamic of the ride from what we are used to - which is fantasitic. My 2 cents... Adrian. PS Like AJ's suggestion about getting finished riders to turn left after the finish. | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-05 19:08:45 HI all If we could find a wider piece of road further north for the start/finish area would be safer for the sprint end, luckily small groups and riders were well spread last tuesday.maybe will be hard to find on this stretch of road so will need a marshall at the south end to stop traffic for grades finishing. wardy | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-07 07:14:53 Agree with all of the above. Turns on the tandem were hard due to the long turning circle and we relied on the other members of the team letting us turn first to ensure we could stay and work with the group so I would echo all the above comeents regarding the turns. Any thing that could give a bigger turning circle would be good as the North end was touch and go every lap. Course is a cracker, very different and far more challenging. Well done!!! | Comment by matto on 2010-02-07 16:35:02 A slightly different tack...my folks live just down from Harrisons and were watching you all go past, and back, and past, and back..... They said it was great watching and are looking forward to next week. :-) Don't forget to smile....Dad is camera happy, just like me. And I may be up there with my camera this week as I need to visit them too. Keep safe out there, my folks don't really like the rescue helicopter landing in their front lawn!!! (It has before).
