The fine weather continues on the cycling front, though I've heard that there aren't many places to hide on the alternative course out at Peka Peka. Yes, Park Ave is having a break and the 40 km Kermess is between Waikanae and Peka Peka. We've had some issue with the results due to the timing mat being crossed on the out leg and the return leg. The mat design allows the tag to be activated as it crosses the mat. Just in front of the mat (to one side) is an antennae which recieves the signal. Normally, the signal follows the rider. On Tuesday night, the riders were also crossing (away from the antennae) and I think this has caused a number of missed readings. Not everyone, so I'm not sure why some, and not others. There were also a lot of punctures, so I can't tell who finished all their laps, or took a long time to fix a puncture and happened to cross the mat with a time that looked like they completed the race, but did two less laps (for example)...For that reason, I have not manufactured results for missed readings. If you finished just behind someone with a correct reading...I could amend the result. We will have to put our heads together to solve this one. Nevertheless, it doesn't change who won the handicap race. Stand up Peter Foster, who won a tight sprint finish in the Limit group, beating off the challenge of Diana Borman. There were no Scratch riders this week and the fastest time has been attributed to young Vaughan Pretorius. Well done Vaughan. Thank you to Dave Downer who had to set up cones, signs and the timing system. Thanks also go to Bob and Derek for managing the race, as well as Hope for registration. Our marshals: Adrian McKenzie, Ernst and Dietrich Pretorius, Sam King-Turner and Adam John - Thank you. If you have not yet marshalled, please look for a slot on the Marshal Roster link, to the left on the Home page. Results are here Chris

Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 15:04:01 hi there were 5 of us in the limit group and we all finished as a group....Peter Foster had a sprint finish with the tandem bike (Julian Carr / Rachael Carr) and Steve Smith... So Peter was first then the Carrs, then Steve and then it was me...Dianna | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 15:18:34 looks like the timing machine had trouble with the double laps. lots of times are haywire! Not sure how that can be fixed. BrianB | Comment by stephens on 2010-02-04 15:43:22 Dianna has it correct. We, the limit, worked well as a group, thanks to Julian, Rachael and Peter for getting us organised. Plus - Thanks, from my point of view, for a great circuit and all the hard work involved. The turn arounds made life interesting in our group of four bikes (five riders). Steve | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 15:55:54 Well done to all riders, especially big Peter Foster. The 180 turns were interesting to watch. I understand there was another marshall with Adrian in Peka Peka Road; the one frantically waving the red flag. Cheers Clive B
| Comment by stephens on 2010-02-04 16:09:51 My time for lap8 looks like the 10:28.00, compared with Peter 10:21 and Dianna 10:31, so Julian and Rachael would be nearer 10:21 than 10:28. My time for lap6 (20:01) looks like the total lap time and could be broken down to lap6 10:29 and lap7 9:32 (or something similar) as we were pretty much together until animal instincts took over after the last turnaround and downhill :-). J/Rs times would be very similar but the 15:51 can't be correct.. Hope that helps. Steve | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 16:30:37 Hi, Just to thank you all for the comments. Yes, tight finish with Peter who just got us by a bikes length - we will try harder next time. Peter - I went back and got your water bottle and will give it you on Tuesday. Ash Carr did finish but his time is unrecorded for the last lap. He was probably a couple of minutes down on the rest of Break 3 and 4. Thanks to all the marshall and the car drivers who gave us a lot of room!!! Julian and Rachael. | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 16:38:17 Maybe we could put the mat half on the verge with the other end at the centre line. I was in the Break 3 / 4 bunch sprint which came in a few minutes after Limit. There were maybe 12 to 14 of us together on the last lap including Candice and Belinda. We broke up on the long straight in. I think John McCardle got the sprint with Neil Garton second or third. I was a few seconds back, fifth in our group. I know this is not much help but I don't know everyones names yet. Joe | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 18:16:05 Im pretty sure i finished 4th or 5th in the break/break2 sprint behind doug barrett but for some reson my final lap time has not been recorded KEEGAN | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-04 22:51:15 I looked at some of the times, to try and break down some of the double laps and things like that, but it looks impossible. Some people still only have times for 3.5 laps, some actually have times for 4.5 laps! I think some people with double laps may have an extra time from riding back over the mat after they finished. It looks unfixable... Brian B oh, and well done Pete! | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-05 10:41:36 Careful Brian...you might end up with a job... :-) Chris | |
