The weekend past saw a number of club riders, and some friends who participate in our Tuesday night races, venture northwest to New Plymouth for the Yarrows Taranaki Cycle Challenge. 150kms or rollings hills that circumnavigate Mount Taranaki. A beautiful ride for those that haven't tried it. Traditionally the region seems to turn on a brilliant day, with record temperatures seen in past years. If our weather was anything to go by, I'd say it was a hot one this year too. Lucky the race wasn't on Sunday, because looking at the wind on TV at Pukekura Park, where the final of the 20/20 cricket final was played, it didn't look very nice at all. Most of the details here are straight off the result sheet, so feel free to add your personal account from your ride. Chris Sanson from Levin and Findlay Brazier rode in the Premier Race, with Chris finishing 7th in 3hrs 55minutes and 54 seconds and Findlay was 11th in 3:56:06. Well done gents. In the Solo ride I know of a couple of stand out results with Malcolm Bruce, Allan Hallberg, Keegan McCauley, Matthew Goode, and Adrian McKenzie (on his birthday..) all finishing in the leading bunch. Matt Oliver took over an hour off his previous best time (proving that he does indeed now know there is a big chain ring...I gets harder now Matt). Marcia Goode did our region and herself proud by being the first woman home in 4:09:14, and Keegan McCauley came first with 3:52:48 in the 16-19 year old bracket followed very closely by Matthew Goode. Great result. From what I can tell, here are the times of our near and dear: Premier Race | Name | Place | Time | Chris Sanson | 7 | 3:55:54 | Findlay Brazier | 11 | 3:56:06 |
Solo | Name | Net Time | Grade | Gun Place | Grade Place | Allan Hallberg | 3:52:44 | M45-54 | 37 | 4 | Keegan McCauley | 3:52:48 | M16-19 | 38 | 1 | Adrian McKenzie | 3:52:49 | M35-44 | 59 | 10 | Malcolm Bruce | 3:52:52 | M35-44 | 33 | 15 | Matthew Goode | 3:53:00 | M16-19 | 39 | 2 | Adil Abdat | 4:07:24 | M35-44 | 81 | 30 | Marcia Goode | 4:09:14 | F35-44 | 95 | 1 | David Brazier | 4:13:26 | M45-54 | 123 | 40 | Mike Neville | 4:20:26 | M45-54 | 169 | 57 | Bob Pratt | 4:20:39 | M60-69 | 173 | 8 | John Borthwick | 4:22:53 | M35-44 | 193 | 56 | Glenys Te Maipi-Kemp | 4:42:27 | F45-54 | 294 | 3 | Angela Kriel | 4:47:12 | F35-44 | 332 | 16 | Neil Garton | 4:55:14 | M55-59 | 383 | 32 | Matt Oliver | 5:11:10 | M35-44 | 464 | 106 | Lisa Forde | 5:45:38 | F35-44 | 597 | 26 | Ernst Pretorius | 5:47:00 | M45-54 | 604 | 209 |

Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-01 16:56:44 Hi Chris. I did a relay with Ian Pike and I did the second half in 2:35 without any drafting. Our team time was 5:55:03. Basic maths suggests that Ian 's time could be calculated as the balance but we have 2 orphan minutes that no one wants to claim. | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-03 22:29:34 Hi all, Glenys deserves special mention with a medal awarded to her for 3rd place in her grade at prize giving, Awesome effort! Cheers Ange Kriel | Comment by GUEST on 2010-02-23 06:34:50 Thanks for the mention here guys. I was really pleased with my result. I guess training does pay off! And not to be pedantic - but my placing was 2nd in my grade - there was a mis-time for someone in my grade of 1hr something in the first set of results out. Glynis. | |
