The Summer SeriesThis a series of informal races that takes place every Tuesday night during daylight saving time at 6pm from Park Road in Waikanae. It runs on a handicap system so it's aimed at absoluteley everyone - from complete novices to guns. It's 35km which is 10 laps of a 3.5km course. Points are awarded for showing up (consistancy pays off) and how well you do - and prizes are awared at the end of the season. It's a great introduction to the club. You don't have to be a club member to get involved - you just need to register for the night (you can do this 3 times before our insurers require you to become a club member which includes the appropriate licence) . Don't worry if you're not the fastest - everyone has to start somewhere - and if you stick with it you will improve quickly. The beauty of the handicap system is that there is generally bunches of riders at every level - so you won't be on your own. Training RidesThese are not formal club organised events - however many of our club members meet to train together at various times every week: Weekends8am Saturday and Sunday (9am in Winter). Leaving from outside Robert Harris coffee shop at the back of Coastlands. The route is not always the same - but generally heads north towards Otaki - staying off SH1 as much as possible. There are plenty of options on this ride for heading back early. The Saturday rides are around 60-70km and the Sunday rides 100km+. Both of these rides are pretty flat.
8am Saturday and Sunday (9am in Winter). A faster group leaves from Paraparaumu and heads off on a 100km loop across to the Hutt Valley via Paekakariki hill and returning via the Akatarawas. If you like hills - then this is the ride for you. We also have a bunch called the 60/40's that is an more social group. The aim is to travel around at a pace of about 26-28km/hr. The ride leaves from outside Robert Harris coffee shop at the back of Coastlands at 8:00am, just after the other group above has gone. This is a Great ride to introduce people to the sport and the benefits of bunch riding. WeekdaysThere is a group that heads off from the Raumati Fish Supply in Raumati Village on Thursday mornings at 8am. Road Racing The club hosts a couple of road races through the summer season. These races have several different levels of entry - so there is something to suit all levels of rider. Check out the Events/Results pages for more details.
