We're back for some fantastic racing at Southward Car Museum

For those that don't know Southwards Car Museum is just off SH1 on Otaihanga road just north of Paraparaumu.

The dates are as follows:  Dec 6th, 13th and 20th, Jan 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st, Feb 7th.

As you can see the course goes anti-clockwise round the museum.   It's an approximately 700m circuit.  Around the back the road dips down and then up again so it's a great course, very safe and a huge amount of fun.

One of the great things about this course is that it's fantastic for watching the races unfold as the riders come by every few minutes.

I'm sure many will ride there but, for those driving, parking is available inside the circuit.  We will have a marshal by the gate to let you know when you can cross the circuit safely.

The organisation is as follows:

The cost is just $5 per licenced rider (members of other clubs are welcome at that same price) and $15 for a non-licenced rider.  Every rider will be asked to produce their licence so remember to bring it with you.  Entry will entitle you to a sausage or 2 at the sausage sizzle that will be on :).  As with the past races this season, if you can pre-enter this is a real help to the organisers.  Simply email your name and preferred grade to out Club Captain, Doug Barrett, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before Tuesday mid-day.  If not preregistered, please do this as soon as possible on the night at the club trailer.

If you aren't a member talk to the friendly faces at the registration trailer and they will give you the details or click HERE to see how to join (if you join now you get a membership through to the end of 2017).  If you've not raced with us before you are welcome to try a few races out before deciding whether to join us in our obsession passion :)

Racing will be graded, with people of similar ability will be starting together and racing each other to the finish and only 1 race will be running on the circuit at a time.  There will be early races at 5pm for juniors followed by 4 races for adults.

For the seniors, as a guide...

Race 1

  • for new riders, beginners and young adults
  • for riders who race in Break 4/Limit handicap groups or D grade

Race 2

  • for people who are generally in Break 3 in our regular handicap racing or C grade

Race 3

  • for Break/Break2 or B grade riders

Race 4

  • for those who are in Scratch or A grade normally

Junior Races start at 5:00pm There will be a couple of junior races in the hour before the adults begin. The course will be dependant on the numbers and ages of the kids. If we get a number of kids under 8 we will run a separate race that just takes in the front of the museum. Older kids will have a race on the full circuit.

Junior Race 1: 8 years and under will got for 5 mins + 2 laps (we've had 5 year old's having a blast in this race)

Junior Race 2: 9-11 years will got for 8 mins + 2 laps

Junior Race 3: 12-14 years will go for 10 mins + 2 laps

Senior Race 1: D grade - starts at 6pm and will go for 25 mins  = (20mins + 2 laps).

Senior Race 2: C grade- starts at 6:30pm and will go for 25 mins = (20mins + 2 laps).

Senior Race 3: B grade - starts at 7pm  and will go for - 35 mins (30mins + 2 laps).

Senior Race 4: A grade - starts at 7:35pm  and will go for - 40 mins (35mins + 2 laps).

So it'll pay to be well warmed up before your start.

Registration will open at 4:45pm.

Timing will be done manually and the first 3 across the line will be judged.
